Computers

About four years ago,  Sheila Crowley, our Principal,  and the teachers decided to get computers for each classroom.  We were delighted and have done lots of work on them since.  Each classroom from infants to sixth has a timetable  so that everyone gets time to work on the computer.  We go down in pairs usually.  We have lots of CDs to explore and use.  We do painting, projects, stories, design posters and cards, and lots of other things.

Website

We are doing a website in school for the Internet.  It is hard work.  A website is like a book, only on the Internet.  Everybody in the class does something for the website.  I wrote about Sarah Curran.  You have to go to Word or FrontPage to type your story.  Our photo will be on the website but our names will be mixed up so that anyone who doesn't know us cannot find out who we are.  We are learning how to use the computer as well.  You have to book your webspace from Eircom.  You also have to book your name for the website.  Computers are great fun.  You can put a background on your work.   We can add new pages, link them to other pages, put in pictures and link them and other things.  We put everything into folders.  When the website is finished  it will be great.  It was all our own work.  Our teacher Christine showed us what to do.  We will carry on writing stories and everything for the website.

E-mail

Newmarket Boys' N.S, Newtownshandrum N.S., Herbertstown N.S., Co Limerick and Dromina N.S. were doing a project where each group (8 in total) had to come up with a story of a selected choice. They then had to write the first part involving 150-250 words, then the next school had to do the second part and the last school had to do the last part. Each of the eight groups had to come up with the start of a story.  They then had to e-mail it to the next school over a certain period of time. At the end of the time every school in Cork that participated were entered in a draw for a computer.  We wrote 24 stories in total and we really enjoyed writing them and reading what the other schools added.
