'Thumbs up to Library Time We didn’t have a library until 1998 when we made a library from a classroom. We painted a lot of paintings on the walls, like lions and famous cartoon characters. The Department of Education kindly gave us £1,000 for some library books. We have all different types of books like action thrillers, romantic, sad, cheerful, scary and mostly funny books. We have a lot of authors like Don Conroy, Anna Fine and Dick King-Smith. The library is right beside our gym and it is very hard to stay quiet when we are at P.E (Physical education). Every teacher has a timetable. They go once or maybe twice a week. Sometimes the teachers ask us to write book reviews or else we just report on the books orally. There are easy books for the infants and really hard books for 5th and 6th class. The parents association kindly covered all of the books with clear contact to help keep the books in better condition. We keep the books in alphabetical order according to the authors, so, every time we have to put it back in right place That way, when we are looking for a certain book we find it easily. by Kevin O'Sullivan, Billy Hourigan & Rory O'Keeffe

'Lion King' painted by Denis O'Riordan (1999)
| The fifth and sixth classes painted murals and pictures on the library walls to make it bright and attractive. Two talented boys, acting as team leaders, outlined by freehand the characters and backgrounds for the pictures. The rest of the boys filled them in with paint, under their guidance and instructions. The paintings were undercoated first and then coloured with high-gloss paints. It looks fabulous. We loved doing the work and had a fabulous time ‘out-of-class’. Now we're beginning to work on the library door - Michael O'Keeffe's 4th and 5th class are painting the inside of the door while we're (5th and 6th) are doing the outside. In May and June we will do the walls of the corridor outside our own classroom. |
