OrienteeringMap

In the Island Wood, there are orienteering competitions for beginners  on some Sundays.  Orienteering is all about map reading.  The last Sunday it was on, 25 of February, I think, you could start anytime between 11.00 and 1.00 o’clock.  The course had three sections – a beginners, an intermediate and a professional course. There was a good crowd there for the competition.  The medium course was 4Km and the winners from our school were Brian O’Riordan, Billy Hourigan and Joseph Walsh.  The winners of the beginners course were Billy Allen and Jerry Murphy.  Nobody won the professional course from the school.

The other orienteering courses we have done so far are two town-orienteering courses, organized by Carmel Feehan.   Everyone loves it and Carmel is very kind to give her time and services to the school.  She had to make maps of the town and write out clues for us.  We then set off at five minute intervals and raced around town.  The first day we all went in pairs whilst the second day, some of us headed off on our own.  Some people on the street stopped us to ask us what we were doing and even helped us!  We had brilliant fun.  We had to run all around town finding the markers that Carmel had put out and punch our cards.  We love it so much that we want to do more orienteering courses whenever they’re on.   Carmel hopes to organise more for us and even do a Munster Competition later in the year.

Earwigs

Ha-Ha

On Tuesday, the 7th of November 4th, 5th and 6th class went to Siamsa Tíre in Tralee. It was a very enjoyable day, the show was very good but a bit short. It was on for about an hour and a half. The show itself was a very funny comedy in which the main character, Eddie, finds out his brother Tony's secret and has to decide whether or not to tell his parents. A further spin is added by the fact his parents think Tony's on drugs and also that their nosey neighbour Mrs Farrell is always around. There was a shop at the theatre where we could buy chocolate bars, drinks and tea or coffee. After the show we went to McDonalds. It was only about 3 minutes away from the theatre. When we got there we had to wait in the queue to get served. Afterwards we headed home and on the bus, we sang songs and everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves . We got home at about 4 o'clock and we all went home.

Our School Trip

On the 17th June 2000, we went on our school tour. We left school at half past eight and arrived at Cork gaol at about ten o clock. It was very good and enjoyable and we got a tour around by Helen. Then we went to Trabolgan at about 1 o'clock. We went swimming and I went quading, playing crazy-golf and mini golf. We had our dinner in the restaurant. Then we went shopping in Douglas where I bought a lot of stuff. We left Douglas at about 6 o'clock and got home at eight o' clock. We had all a very good and enjoyable day.
